Neutral color palettes might not be eye-catching, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t stylish and eye-catching! Choosing a neutral color palette is all about choosing a color that works with your undertone and wardrobe. While some people only think of black and white when imagining neutral colors, the world of neutral color palettes is vast and includes warm and cool neutrals from across the color spectrum.
In this quick guide, we share some tips that will make you feel good about neutral colors and some of your favorite makeup and nail colors that will inspire you.
Knowing your skin tone is great for choosing a neutral color and can also help you achieve better color matching when choosing products like foundations and powders. There are many different skin tones, but skin tones can generally be divided into three categories.
- Warm: gold and red tones
- Cool: Pink and blue tones
- Neutral: A combination of warm and cool tones
They are confused about where to go on the spectrum and whether to go to warm or cold neutral? Here are some simple tips for identifying undertones.
- Wear bright white. Bright white clothing helps bring out the shade of the skin, especially when out in the sun! If your skin is slightly yellow or golden when you wear white, you likely have a warmer tone. If your skin is slightly red or pink, you likely have cool undertones. You possibly have a neutral undertone if you feel somewhere in the middle.
- Compare gold and silver jewelry. The metal you choose for your jewelry is entirely up to personal taste, but comparing how gold and silver look on your skin will help you identify your undertones. If the gold jewelry splashes on your skin, it’s probably a warm hue. If you can’t decide what looks more attractive, there is a neutral undertone. If the money looks good, you’re probably cool.
Please Select a Palette.
Once you determine whether you have excellent, warm, or neutral undertones, choosing a neutral color that matches your skin tone is easier. Undertones can help you define how a color looks, but remember, you can wear whatever you want as long as it feels clean!
Aside from shades, the next step in choosing the right neutral beauty product is choosing a neutral color palette.
Dark neutral is dramatic and romantic, perfect for fall/winter wear and upcoming evening wear events. One of our favorite examples of gorgeous dark neutrals is deep mauve nail polish. Deep Mauve is a warm pink mauve like a grown princess!
Bright neutral is fun, frivolous, and a perfect color palette for summer and spring. Another stunning color in the nail polish collection, pastel pink, is an excellent candy pink that can take you from day tonight. The calm but bold pastel pink color is opaque and striped.
If you have a simple makeup routine and are looking for a color that you can wear with everything, go for neutral nude. Nude doesn’t have to match skin color, so you don’t have to worry about color matching. As with all other colors, the choice of nudity is more of an undertone issue. One of our favorite nudities of the moment is a shiny yet delicate, warm, and neutral manicure.
